I see leaf people,
And the unsettling thing is,
Leaf people see [[me.]]The first time I saw one,
I was walking down a busy street, on a bright fall day.
I glanced down an ally, and noticed a pile of leaves.
But then the pile [[stood up.]]I've seen many of them now.
Leaf people come in the colors you'd expect.
Mostly green ones and golden ones.
I haven't seen a purple one yet.
I see leaf people, not flower people, [[ha ha.]]There is no chasing.
They leave me alone, more-or-less.
They don't have eyes, but I know they're looking at me
Because they [[always face me.]] I don't know what they were doing before I came along.
I don't know what they want.
I don't know a lot of things,
But I do //know// about the [[leaf people.]]In the street, I stopped a woman once
and asked her if she [[saw them too.]][[She didn't.]] The leaf people see me.
I should be happy for the [[attention.]]Most people see me without really seeing me, you know?
They look right through me without engaging.
I'm scenery to them - [[set design.]] I don't know why people should notice me,
it's just nice when they [[do.]]I think of it this way:
Do you pay particular attention
To the third picket in a picket fence?
The one just to the left of the gate?
Or does it blend in with all the [[others?]] I see leaf people and
The leaf people see me.
I should be happy for the attention.
[[END]]But she sure saw me for a moment,
And walked away like she had [[somewhere to be.]]<img src="https://www.dropbox.com/s/k0egfr5dldjzqnt/leaf%20people%2001.jpg?dl=1" width="630" height="500">
